SWAY Magazine

Final Issue of SWAY Magazine

(08/09/2012) Just days after another amazing Caribana weekend sad news was delivered to me about one of my favorite Canadian Magazines. The thing I enjoyed about SWAY was the insight it gave me into the Afro-Caribbean Community of Canada. Also I liked that it gave exposure to writers, photographers, graphic designers, stylist and so many other creative people in Afro-Caribbean Community.

It will always mean a lot that SWAY was one of the first publications to feature my fashion week photography. I hope this change does not affect the great staff that worked so hard on SWAY. Times are so hard for print publications with the internet, blogs, Facebook, Twitter and tablets. With the changes and speed of information today there are interesting times ahead for all creative industries.

WMC Fashion Week 2012

FDCC and World MasterCard: Canadian Catwalk FW 2012

(08/09/2012) Today I woke up to a surprising email announcing the sale of Toronto Fashion Week to Fashion power player IMG. The Toronto Fashion Community has been talking about this development all day. As an American who covers fashion week I have my own worries and concerns. I feel like I have a lot to get in order and make sure I have all my ducks in a row before Fashion week in October. I have really enjoyed covering Toronto Fashion Week and I hope to continue in the future. We all are nervous and excited for the changes.

Opique-Basch-2

Photography by Igor Yu, for Brill Communications

With his first collection with the BASCH label, Wesley Badanjak presented a strong collection that stayed true to the labels vision. The thing that i like about the BASCH brand is that is affordable luxury with limited production. So you know when you get a piece from BASCH it has not been mass-produced. The show had a great mix of separates, to cocktail dress to great evening gowns. The color palette was a mix of black, fuchsia, silver, red and pink. The key to this collection is versatility.

Some of my favorite pieces are the fuchsia top and skirt with the solid fuchsia panels, fringed black jacket with red slacks and finally the metallic evening gown.

Opique-LOVAS

Photography by Igor Yu, for Brill Communications

For the Fall/Winter 2012 LOVAS Collection called “The Waterless Flood”, Designer Wesley Badanjak took inspiration from “The Year of the flood” by Canadian author Margaret Atwood. The color palette was a mix of light grey, black, maroon, and electric blue. I really enjoyed the mix of fabrics and the use of prints. Once again he presented a collection that will work for the young business women to the established well know socialite.
