SARAH MCGOWAN – WINNER, BASCH IT UP
Sarah McGowan was born and raised in small town Ontario and is currently living in Toronto. From a young age, she was inspired to become an artist by her painter grandmother and her ballerina aunt and has been passionate about all forms of art and design ever since.
Sarah graduated from the University of Waterloo and was employed as an urban planner for over five years. However, while living abroad in London, England, she was able to attend classes at Central Saint Martins and the London College of Fashion which deepened her love of fashion design and strengthened her determination to be a part of the fashion industry. In 2010, Sarah decided to follow her dream to become a fashion designer and began her training at the School of Fashion at George Brown College. She is scheduled to graduate in June 2012.
Sarah has interned with Toronto based fashion designer, Zoran Dobric and she is currently interning with Greta Constantine.
Sarah’s design inspiration comes from many places such as classic film, modern art, historic dress, nature and world travel. Her designs strive to attain a sophisticated edge while making those who wear her designs feel beautiful and individual.
What Sarah most loves about fashion is its ability to enhance, transform and provide a platform for self-expression.
Sarah entered the Basch It Up Competition in order to have the opportunity to design for real women. Her ultimate dream is to make clothes that women will wear and love!
